Polished Concrete

Concrete is a combination of cement and aggregate materials. Aggregates are typically harder than cement to improve wear, and the job location determines the type used, varying from granite to limestone. The Concrete Polishing Council classifies aggregate exposure from A to D, and the amount of exposed aggregate increases as the letters change.

Cream Finish

  • Type A Finish—meaning it has the lowest aggregate exposure.
  • Lower cost alternative to other polished floors.
  • It can be stained any color and polished to a high-gloss.

*It can only be installed on new concrete floors, not renovations.

Salt and Pepper

  • Type B floor finish with light aggregate exposure that gives a "peppered" look.
  • Requires light grinding. It can be polished to a high gloss and is more durable than a cream finish.

Medium Aggregate

  • Type C floor finish that exposes medium pieces of aggregate and may expose larger pieces as well. Ground to 1/8" depth.
  • Highly durable and often referred to as a semi-polished floor.

High Aggregate

  • Type D floor finish that exposes the largest pieces of aggregate in the concrete.
  • Requires the heaviest amount of grinding (1/4-inch depth).
  • Highly sought after in luxury commercial and residential builds. It is the priciest option.
